Spicy Dips!

Monday afternoon I decided to throw together a couple of dips to take to our weekly Monday night football gathering. I had about two cups of fat-free plain yogurt in the fridge and a plethora of spices in the cupboard. First,  I divided the yogurt equally into two containers. I then decided that Indian flavors sounded good so I grabbed my ground cumin, cayenne, garlic powder and a spicy curry powder blend. I put about 1/2 tsp of cumin,  1/2 tsp of garlic powder and 1/8 tsp of cayenne in one container and was sure to mix it thoroughly. The second container got about 2 tablespoons of my spicy curry blended into it. I covered the containers and threw them both into the refrigerator. A few hours later the flavors had melded and the yogurt concoctions were ready for dipping! I gave each dip a quick stir and set out some raw carrots and crackers to dunk.

Using yogurt as a dip base is, once again, a healthy alternative to a sour cream based dip. Also, it's EASY!!! You can pretty much throw anything into a sour cream or yogurt, stir it up and wait. Fresh chives, dill or other herbs are quite nice when they're available but dried herbs and powders will suffice. For the less adventurous in the kitchen, all kinds of spice blends (like my spicy curry blend) and prepackaged soup mixes are available in stores for you to simply stir into the creamy fermented dairy base of your choosing.

The possibilities are endless!

Have you ever made Homemade Yogurt? From like milk or cream and bacteria and a little sugar? You should try it out. That might be kinda interesting as you cruise through your yogurt universe....................
